High winds and heavy rain batters the UK, and more to come!

21.11.09

Several weather warnings have been issues for England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Last week’s weather proved a real challenge to our operation, greatly reducing the on time performance of British Virtual Airways, and forcing many pilots to go around or even divert to alternative airports. VATSIM controllers reported an increase of 40% of go around due to pilots struggling to control their aircraft on finals in the Scottish control centre. As always safety comes first, and when checking the real world weather, it would be acceptable for pilots to cancel the flight for poor weather conditions. Better safe than sorry! If you do realise the flight you have taken will be too challenging for your flying skills, please report it back to us as not flown with a small explanation in the free text box.

More bad weather is expected for next week, so extra care should be taken over the UK skies

BVAir.com now 100% British!
17.11.09

You may not have been aware of it, but up to today, British Virtual Airways was actually partially based in America! Although we have been using UK based servers since 2001, our domain was held by a US corportation. We have now moved that to a site here in the United Kingdom. The move went smoothly, though a slight delay in the relay of updated pages within the website was reported by some users, particularly those with using Virgin Media rather than a BT based ISP.

All should be working as normal now.

Airbus 321 set for a come back!
15.11.09

S
ome two years after its removal, the Airbus A321 is set to make a return to the BVAir.com fleet! We are currently evaluating several models in view of re-introducing the aircraft before Christmas. Whilst this move will add choice for current pilots, the A321 will only be released for FSX and may ultimately lead to the retirement of the Boeing 757 as both aircraft tend to serve similar markets and operation the two creates complexity. We will evaluate the Boeing 757 usage again next year to see whether to keep it flying for a while longer or not!
